How To Make A Handprint Fish

Directions

  • Print out the template and cut out the patterns. You can use the hand layout provided with our template or simply trace a hand for this craft. The other patterns are stripes, blush, lips, and eyes. Trace the template patterns on the selected craft paper and cut out the traced pattern.

  • The finger side is the backside of the fish, and the palm part is the body. Glue the lip cutout to the palm side of the handprint. Glue the eye and blush cutout near the lips on the palm side of the handprint.

  • Fill the eye in with a color of your choice using a sharpie.
Glued white strips to the other end of the handprint fish.
  • Glue the stripe cutouts on the finger parts of the handprint.
Cut the strips that were between the fingers.
  • Use different colored craft paper for the handprint and stripes for added variety.

  • You can glue the handprint fish crafts to a piece of blue paper and add underwater items to it for more fun!

Tips and Tricks

  • Create a school of fish as a countdown for the start of school; make a chain or tape the fish to the wall and take one down each day. 
  • Hang the fish from some fishing line to create some fun underwater decorations.
  • Add sequins to the fish to create some shiny scales.  
  • Pair adult and child handprints together to make different sizes of fish.

This Handprint Fish papercraft is part easy craft, part keepsake! Make one each summer and use your kid's hand to see how much they've grown.

Materials

  • Colored Construction papers
  • Pencil – to trace the template
  • Craft glue
  • A pair of scissors
  • Sharpie or gel pen

Instructions

Print out the template and cut out the patterns. You can use the hand layout provided with our template or you can trace a hand for this craft. The other patterns are stripes, blush, lips and eye. Trace the template patterns on the selected construction papers and cut out the traced pattern.

The finger-side is the backside of the fish and the palm part is the body. Glue the lip cutout to the palm side of the handprint.

Fill the eye with a color of your choice using a sharpie or gel pen. Glue the eye and the blush cutouts on the front side (palm part) of the handprint.

Glue the stripe cutouts on the palm part of the handprint near the fingers.

Use scissors to cut off extra parts of the stripes, if needed.

Use different colored craft papers for the handprint and the stripes for more variation.

You can attach the handprint fish craft to a piece of blue paper and add underwater item patterns on it for more fun!

How Do I Print A PDF?

You’ll need a program that supports PDFs. Adobe Acrobat is a great option. Open the program, click file then print. Select your printer and the number of copies you want to print. Be sure you click double-sided if you want it to print on both sides. 

Can I Resell These?

You may not resell any printable or template that you find on our website or received in your email. You may use them for class parties, at church, at home, or in the classroom. You may get these printed at an office supply store or copy center at your own expense.
