I don’t know about you, but my kids ask me at least once a week if we can get a monkey. They have those long tails that help them swing and cute little curious eyes. It’s no wonder kids of all ages like to imitate these fun little creatures. This Handprint Monkey is a sure way to brighten up your little one’s day. Even if they can’t have one as a pet, they can create this adorable little handprint monkey with their own hands. This craft is super simple, and you probably already have everything you will need.

Tracing your hand is a great hand/eye coordination practice for your little ones. With your help, they can trace and cut out the shape of their hand to make the body of the monkey, and you will have a memory of how little their hands were for years to come. Help them make a few monkey handprint crafts to send to grandparents in the mail or take to school to give to their teacher.

Your little ones will have a blast tracing, cutting, gluing, and creating. They will see their hands in an all-new way. Help them find their inner creativity as they see how easy it is to take just a few materials and make something they can be proud of. Make it even more fun by perfecting your monkey sounds and singing songs about Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.

Tips and Tricks

  • To make a softer monkey, use brown felt instead of paper.
  • Get creative and paint your hand, then place the brown handprint on the paper. This will become your monkey.
  • Get creative with the tail! Use a pipe cleaner instead of construction paper.
  • If making this craft with little kids, you may want to pre-cut all the pieces for them.
  • This is a great opportunity to teach them about monkeys, their habitats, and their behaviors. Incorporating learning can make the craft more meaningful.
  • Discuss the colors and shapes used during the craft to reinforce these concepts for younger children.
  • Don’t forget to take photos of the children with their crafts. These make for precious memories and can be used to show progress over time.
