Making paper bag puppets is a great craft for kids of all ages. They’re easy to make, and you can let your imagination run wild with the possibilities for characters. This puppet is great for learning about sloths, but you can also use it to tell your own stories. Let’s get started!

How to Make Your Own Sloth Paper Bag Puppet:

  • For this craft, you can select a paper bag or make your own customized paper bag from brown paper. 
  • Select colored construction papers for the sloth figure. The template includes the following patterns: head, face, eye-patches, upper legs, lower legs, nails, and belly (oval shape).
  • Trace the template patterns on the selected paper and cut out the traced pattern.
  • Glue the eye-patch cutouts on both sides of the face cutout, keeping the round ends facing inward.
  • Glue the face pattern in the middle of the head cutout.
  • Draw the face of the sloth using a sharpie or pen.
  • Glue the nail cutouts on the leg cutouts.
  • Select a brown paper bag or craft your own.
  • Measure and cut out a piece of paper to cover any one side of the bag, this will be the front of the puppet. Attach the 2 short leg patterns on the bottom side of the paper.
  • Attach the oval cutout (belly) on the paper prepared to cover the bag and then attach the paper to cover any one side of the paper, which will be the front side of the paper bag puppet.
  • Flatten the bottom side of the bag with the front side and attach the head pattern on the bottom side.
  • Attach the two long leg cutouts on both sides (left and right) of the paper bag sloth craft to complete the craft.

Tips and Tricks: 

  • Add some strips of paper to make your sloth look furry.
  • Use googly eyes and add some fun to your new friend’s face.
  • Instead of drawing the smile, use colored paper to make the sloth appear even happier.

How Do I Print A PDF?

You’ll need a program that supports PDFs. Adobe Acrobat is a great option. Open the program, click file then print. Select your printer and the number of copies you want to print. Be sure you click double-sided if you want it to print on both sides.
