Your kids will love buzzing around with these Bumble Bee Garden Rocks. Perfect for your garden, outside play, or even inside make believe, your kids of all ages will love this simple craft. You’re also going to love having all your kids gathered around, painting and laughing together as they create a bee of their own!
Bumble Bee Garden Rocks
My kids have been fascinated with the idea of a garden this Spring. We’ve already made Caterpillar Paper Puppets and these adorable Snail Bookmarks. I decided that it was time to add some outdoor decorations to the craft list.
While I haven’t jumped on board the idea of a full garden, these Bumble Bee Garden Rocks are perfect for kids to play with outside. They can squirm through the dirt, fly around the back yard, or maybe even line a garden bed.
These Bumble Bee Garden Rocks are also perfect for all your kids! Your littlest kids can finger paint their bees, or help you with the paintbrushes. Your older ones can get as creative as they’d like, changing the colors or patterns to fit their unique style! I know your entire family is going to love this project as much as mine did.
Try making enough to give to family and friends to help welcome Spring back this year! I’m sure grandma and grandpa, or aunts and uncles will love to have a cute bug to help them with their yard work.
How to Make Bumble Bee Garden Rocks
Supplies
- Oval rocks – we used 1.5” x 2” for this project
- Yellow, black, and white craft paint
- Paint brushes
- Clear glaze to seal the rocks if you’re using them outside
Directions
- Paint the entire rock yellow. Allow to dry, then do a second and third coat, if needed. You can speed up dry time by using a blow dryer if you wish.
- Paint the “head” of the bee, and then black lines across the rock. Allow to dry.
- Use the foam dabber or the pointed end of your paintbrush with white paint to make the eyes, and allow to dry.
- Use the foam dabber again, to just put a tiny dot of black paint in the middle of the white to finish the eyes.
- Once the rock is completely dry, finish with a clear glaze of your choice to seal the paint, and protect it from the outdoor elements.
Tips and Tricks
- They don’t have to be bumble bees! Let your kids get creative with colors or patterns and make up cute bugs of their own.
- You can use a similar idea to put anything you’d like on your rocks! Do hearts and “I love you” for grandma and grandpa, or rainbows and butterflies for the spring garden.
- Give your bees as a gift with a card that says “We Bee-lieve in You!” or “You are Bee-utiful!”.
