A countdown chain is a fun way to countdown to a special event or even a special moment. It involves cutting out pieces of paper, and writing something on each one if you desire. Then connecting the pieces together like a chain.
For example, you could write something exciting that you are looking forward to on each link and attach them end-to-end so that when you remove one link at a time, it acts as an ongoing countdown.

How To Make Your Own Disney Countdown Chain
By following these easy step by step directions and downloading the template you can make your own Disney countdown chain. Supplies
- Construction Paper or Cardstock
- Pencil – to trace the template
- Craft glue
- Sharpie or gel pen
Select construction paper for the Mickey Mouse countdown chain. The template includes strips, ears, buttons, and shoes. Trace the template patterns on the selected craft papers and cut out the traced patterns.
Take a strip and join both open sides to form a ring. Apply glue on the overlapped open sides to secure the ring. Take another strip and apply glue on a side.
Insert the glued strip through the first paper ring.
Join both open sides of the glued strip to form the 2nd ring.
Continue this process to make the paper chain. Keep the red ring in the middle of the chain.
Take the ear cutouts and apply glue along the extra parts (bottom side) of the ears.
Attach the ear cutouts with a black ring, above and attached to the red ring. Attach the 2 button cutouts side by side on the red ring.
Other Creative Ways to Countdown To A Vacation
Counting down the days until you take a vacation can be half the fun! Instead of just marking off days on your calendar, there are lots of other creative ideas to countdown to that long-awaited trip.
- Hang maps on the wall and let your family vote on where to put a special push pin and a countdown sticker for each day.
- Plant sunflower seeds and watch them bloom as you countdown – a reminder of what beaches or sunshine are in store for you.
- Put popsicle sticks into a jar and take one out each day until you have one remaining. Seeing the amount get smaller each day helps bring anticipation.
- Let each family member come up with an activity that’s related to travel and do it together at home.
