How to Make a Felt Orange Plush
- Select orange, white, yellow, and green colored felt fabrics for the orange plush. Trace the provided patterns on the selected felt fabrics and cut them out nicely using scissors. The template includes patterns for oranges, stems, leaves and flowers.
- Take any one of the orange base cutouts and use a marker to add small dots on the base. Prepare a needle with matching thread.
- Work small cross stitches on the marked dots.
- Place the small crescent cutout on any one side of the orange base, keeping the round edge facing outwards. Stitch the white cutout with the orange base.
- Place the stem cutout on the top side of the orange base, keeping the stem outside. Place the center of the flower on the center of the flower cutout and overlap any one side of the leaf cutouts.
- Place the leaves on the orange base, over the stem and then place the flower on the overlapped parts of the leaves.
- Work a cross stitch on the center of the flower, making sure to stitch the leaves and the stem along with it and the base.
- Place the plain orange base under the stitched one and prepare a needle with thread matching with the orange bases.
- Work flat blanket stitches around the sides of the bases to join them.
- Keep a small opening to stuff the felt orange. Use cotton or scrap felt for stuffing.
- Close the opening to secure the stuffing and tie 2 tight knots. Cut off extra thread if necessary.
Tips and Tricks
- Make sure these crafts are completed with an adult or older child who is comfortable using a needle.
- Choose different shades of orange to make your orange collection even more fun and unique!
- If you are making these stuffed oranges, make sure you don’t over stuff them. It can be difficult to keep your stitching tight enough to keep the cotton inside if there is too much.
- Have fun with this project! It is meant to be fun and creative and to bring you and your kids together while you make some cute crafts.
