This adorable Felt Snowman Ornament is a perfect craft to do with your kids on those chilly Christmas Break days. This felt craft you sew is a great way to keep your kids’ hands busy so you don’t have to listen to “Mom, I’m bored!”.
Felt Snowman Ornament Craft
I don’t know about you, but I love having homemade ornaments covering our Christmas tree. Every year, we try to make at least a few ornaments to keep using year after year. This Felt Snowman Ornament is a perfect keepsake.
Through the years, we’ve made tons of ornaments, including our Felt Gnome Ornaments and Disney Papercraft Ornaments. This year I wanted to throw it back to the classics and what is more traditional Christmas than a snowman?
These snowmen are so cute and will work on your kids’ fine motor skills. But I have found that the best part of making your own ornaments is the time spent together as a family. You can even try playing some family trivia games together as you craft.
This is an awesome time of year to slow down and enjoy time with your family, and creating this snowman ornament is a great way to do that.

Supplies
- Felt fabrics
- Matching thread
- Needle
- A pair of scissors
- Cotton or scrap felt (for stuffing)
- Pencil or fabric chalk
Directions
- Grab a piece of white felt for the snowman base, head and lower body patterns, brown for the stick hands, orange for the nose, pink for the blush, and any color of felt of your choice for the hat and muffler. Trace the patterns onto your felt, and cut out.
- Sew the nose cutout to the center of the head cutout.
- Sew the blush cutouts on both cheeks and use a black gel pen to trace the eyes and the mouth-line of the felt snowman pattern. You can also use googly eyes for an added fun touch!
- Use black embroidery thread to stitch along the traced eyes and mouth-line if you’d like.
- Place the head pattern on the head part of the base cutout. Sew the open side of the head pattern to the base. Keep the inner side open for now.
- Stuff the head of the felt snowman with cotton through the open end. Stuff enough cotton through the opening to give the head part a nice and fluffy look.
- Place the lower body cutout on the body part of the base and tuck the top side of the body under the bottom open end of the head. Sew the overlapped sides of the body to the head.
- Place a stick hand on a side of the snowman pattern, keeping the hand cutout between the base and the body layers.
- Sew the side of the body, securing the hand. Stop sewing the side when you reach the point of the other hand. Keep that opening for stuffing the snowman pattern.
- Stuff the body part of the felt snowman with cotton through the open end.
- Place the 2nd hand between the body and base layers. Sew the opening to secure the stuffing and secure the 2nd hand.
- Trace and cut out the hat and scarf patterns.
- Place the 2 hat bases together and sew them together. Sew the hat and the scarf on the snowman. Stitch a ribbon loop on the backside of the snowman to complete the ornament.
Tips and Tricks
- This project is best for kids who can sew on their own. Otherwise, you will need to help younger kids to sew the pieces together.
- If your kids want to play with the snowman, just leave the ribbon loop off! Then they will have a fun felt snowman toy to play with.
