How to Make a Gingerbread Man Bookmark

  • Begin making your craft by grabbing your brown cardstock paper for the gingerbread man head and body base pattern. Trace and cut out the head and body base pattern from the brown cardstock paper.

  • Next, you will need to choose your colors of construction paper for the details of the gingerbread man. For this tutorial, I chose red, green, blue, pink, and white sheets, but you can get creative with your colors and make the craft unique to you! Once you have your colors, trace and cut out the other patterns from the different colored construction papers.
  • I traced the bowtie pattern on the red paper, the blush patterns on the pink paper, the buttons on the green and blue paper, and the hair and icing on the white paper.

  • In this step we will begin gluing the pieces together. Start by gluing the frosting hair cutout to the top side of the head pattern. Connect the bowtie pieces by attaching the small round shape cutout in the middle of the bow pattern.
  • Continue adding details to your gingerbread man. Glue the thin wavy icing strips near the ends of the arm and leg parts (at the wrists and ankles).

  • Use your scissors to trim the extra parts of the strips from the previous step. Next, glue the blush cutouts on both cheeks of the head.
  • Next, you will glue the head to the top side of the body base pattern.

  • In this step you will finish gluing the accessories onto your gingerbread man. Glue the button cutouts down the center of the gingerbread man’s stomach. Then glue the bow right under the head.

  • Finally, use a black gel pen or sharpie to draw the face of the gingerbread man papercraft. Once the face is done, glue the gingerbread man onto a popsicle stick (keeping the bottom half free to hang over the edge of the paper) to complete the bookmark craft.

Tips and Tricks

  • To create a gingerbread woman, cut out a rectangular shape of construction paper to use as a dress. Also you can move the bow from the neck to the hair.
  • Get creative with your colors of construction paper and make it your own!
  • Add googly eyes to the gingerbread people’s face to add even more fun and silliness!
