These homemade lotion bars are the perfect gift to give to your friends or family when you need to thank them for anything. I love making little gifts to give to my neighbors at Christmas time or when they do favors for me. This lemongrass lotion bar recipe is the perfect craft for teens.

A great thing about these lotion bars is that you can make all kinds of scents! You can make 18 of the same mold and is quick and fairly simple.  If you buy a set of essential oil scents, then you can use any that you like, or even make a combination of them.

This recipe is simple and perfect for a teen craft at a youth event or at home. Your teen will have the ability to use their creativity to add some food coloring! Don’t love green try a different color option! But be careful with the amounts as you can always add more but can’t take any out. Coloring them will add some personalization and make the perfect gift for friends.

Supplies For Homemade Lemongrass Lotion Bars

  • 2 oz beeswax
  • 2 oz shea butter
  • 2 oz sweet almond oil
  • ¼ tsp fruit green Mica Powder
  • 25 drops lemongrass essential oil (or other essential oil if you want a different scent!)
  • Heart and square molds 

How to Make Homemade Lotion Bars

  • Add beeswax and shea butter to a microwave safe measuring cup or bowl. A spout for pouring is best and less messy.

  • Heat for 30 second intervals, removing and stirring between each heat session, until the beeswax is fully melted. This will take a few minutes.
  • Add the sweet almond oil, then heat for an additional 30 seconds.
  • Add mica powder and essential oil, and stir well.
  • Pour into the molds, and refrigerate for 1 hour to set.

How to Package Homemade Lotion Bars

Once the lotion bars are made, there are lots of ways for you to package them! Of course, you could put them in a simple Ziploc bag. If you are using them as a gift, you could wrap them in a sheet of plastic and then tie them with a cute ribbon or simple twine. You could even sketch a name, word, or picture on the top of the soap if you want to!

These lotion bars are fragile so it is important to store them correctly so they don’t melt or make a mess. One way to do that is to wrap it in beeswax wrap. This will keep it cool and put together. If you don’t have beeswax, you can also keep it in a jar with a lid to help it stay fresh. You can choose to just keep it in a little bowl or cup in your cupboard as well.
