Paper Bag Dog Puppet

Arts and crafts are a favorite activity in our home! We love to always have plenty of art supplies on hand to be able to make a project in minutes. Last week the kids were obsessing about dogs, and since our paper bag lions and paper bag reindeer were so fun, we decided to make this fun paper bag dog puppet!

It was so much fun to create a whole dog family in the process. They created a whole imaginative story!

With the easy-to-download template, you can do this project in about 15 minutes and kids as young as 3 to 4 could make the puppet. For younger children, you can easily precut the pieces so that they can glue them on.

This craft uses colored paper, a paper bag, glue, and scissors. You can easily embellish your puppy paper bag craft in a variety of ways to make it unique and special.

Supplies:

  1. Colored paper
  2. Paper bag
  3. Craft glue
  4. Pencil
  5. Scissors

How to Make a Paper bag Puppet

  • Select light brown, dark brown and light pink colored papers for the dog craft.

  • Trace the body base, head, and leg patterns on the light brown colored paper; trace the tail and ear patterns on dark brown colored paper, and trace the mouth and the belly patterns on the light pink colored paper.

  • Cut out the patterns using scissors.
  • Attach the mouth pattern on the bottom side of the head cut out and attach the belly cutout on the bottom side of the body base cutout.
  • Attach the eye cutouts on the top side of the head pattern.
  • Use a sharpie to draw the nose and mouth of the papercraft dog puppet.
  • Grab a paper bag or you can craft your own custom-sized paper bag from brown wrapping paper. We will use the bottom side of the bag as the top side of the puppet pattern.
  • Attach the leg patterns near the open side of the paper bag.
  • Attach the tail on either side of the paper bag.
  • Attach the body base pattern on the top side of the leg and cover the paper bag’s surface.
  • Attach the head pattern of the paper dog on the bottom flat side of the paper bag and then flatten the bottom side with the rest of the pattern.

More Dog Themed Activities

With so many kids loving dogs, it is easy to create even more fun activities that involve them!

Go for a walk around the neighborhood! See how many dogs you see and you can hear. Talk with your kids about how each dog is different or even how each dog sounds differently.

If you have older kids, introduce them to Name That Puppy which is the perfect game for kids who love animals! For younger kids grab Puglicious. They can play these games over and over again.

Create a fun sensory bin with Dog Figurines mixed with rice. Your kids can dig through looking for the figurines and then spend the rest of the afternoon playing with them.

If you have a child who loves puppies and always wants to take care of one, think about adding this plush puppy dog to your toy collection or this interactive dog that they can play with.

End puppy week with a fun book! A teacher’s favorite is always Can I Be Your Dog? It’s our favorite too soon to be yours as well!
