Whoopie Pie Cookies
My kids and I absolutely love whoopie pie cookies. Not only does it feel silly to say “whoopie pie”, but the yummy taste and the kid-friendly recipe make this one of our favorite treats to make together.
I’m a huge fan of any cookie sandwich. You wouldn’t believe how good my Hot Chocolate Cookies are with frosting sandwiched between them. But whoopie pies have this sentimental place in my heart! Whoopie pie cookies are a sandwich of two cakey and fudgy chocolate cookies filled with a creamy marshmallow frosting.
Every time I eat one of them, I’m filled with happy memories of eating them as a kid!
And I love that now I can share that with my own kids. This recipe is so simple and fun and my kids love making it with me (and licking the spoon of course)!
You can expect little faces covered in chocolate crumbs, frosting smudges, and giant smiles when you eat this special treat!

Tips Tricks and FAQs
- If you don’t have a piping bag or large round tip, you can also use a large disposable plastic bag. I use a gallon-sized bag and place my filling right inside. Then I snip a corner and pipe the frosting just as I would with a piping bag. They may not look as pretty as with a nice tip, but it’ll work fine, and more importantly, it’ll taste great.
- If you have a special event coming up, these cookies are perfect! A great way to make these cookies extra special is by adding sprinkles. To do this, place a pile of sprinkles on a plate. Then take your filled and finished cookie and roll it in the sprinkles so they stick to the filling. You’ll have the cutest little treat fit for any occasion!
- Make sure that your filling is firm before you add it inside the cookies. If it is too soft, the cookies will be a mess when you try to eat them! If the filling has been in the fridge for a half hour and still feels too soft, try adding another ½ cup of powdered sugar and chilling again to firm it up.
Storage
Store the cookies in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 3 days. If you prefer to eat them at room temperature, take them out about 15 minutes before you serve.
