Nothing makes me a hero in my house quite like bringing out my homemade hot chocolate mix! It makes any day feel like a special occasion and my kids go absolutely crazy for it. 

I don’t blame them. You’ll find lots of recipes out there for hot chocolate but I’m telling you, this one is the best! Sweet, simple and delicious! Plus, I use it constantly to make Hot Chocolate Cookies, Hot Chocolate Bombs, and more.

You can keep it basic and enjoy this hot cocoa on its own. Or you can dress it up with your favorite flavors. Cinnamon, peppermint candies, hazelnut coffee creamer, and caramels are a few of my family’s favorite add-ons!

You’ll definitely want to keep some of this hot cocoa mix around!

Ingredients for Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

  • 2 cups instant dry milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

How to Make this Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe

  • The first thing you’ll need to do for this recipe is to grab a large mixing bowl, your favorite sifter, and a whisk. 
  • Once your bowl is ready, sift your powdered sugar right into it.
  • Sift in the instant dry milk and the cocoa powder right on top of the powdered sugar and whisk them to combine.
  • Add the granulated sugar and whisk again until everything looks even and well mixed. 
  • That’s it! Can you believe how easy that is? All there’s left to do is move your hot chocolate into some food storage jars to keep it fresh for when you need it. 
  • When you are ready to make a cup of hot chocolate, add ⅓ cup of the mix to a heat-safe mug and stir in 1 cup of warm milk.
