How To Make Our Yak Paper Bag Puppet
Directions
- Select colored craft paper of your choice. Try to select 3 different colors for the Yak body patterns, hair, and the front oval piece (mouth). We’re tracing the head, ears, and body patterns on brown paper, the oval piece on a different shade of brown paper, the hair on grey paper, and the legs on dark brown paper. Trace the horns on cream or white paper and the inner ear patterns on pink paper. Cut out the traced patterns.
- Glue the hair pattern on the head’s top side (straight end) and glue the inner earpiece to the bigger outer earpiece cutouts.
- Glue the ears on both sides of the head cutout.
- Glue the eyes on the head and the oval piece (mouth) below the eyes, near the bottom side of the head pattern.
- Glue the horn cutouts on the top side of the head pattern, and use a sharpie to draw the mouth-line and nose onto the oval piece.
- Glue the leg cutouts onto the bottom side of the body cutout.
- Glue the body pattern onto the paper bag, keeping the legs towards the open end of the bag.
- Ensure the bag’s bottom part is flat and on the same side as the body pattern. Glue the head pattern on the bottom part of the paper bag to complete the craft.
Tips and Tricks
- Use a white paper bag for a different colored yak.
- Don’t have a paper bag? You can craft one out of construction paper!
- There are a lot of small parts for the yak; for younger children, you may want to pre-cut the pieces to make it easier for them to complete the yak.
